Youth Speaks Competition
Youth Speaks Practice 7th Feb 2011
Teams from Belmont and Kyle Academies took part in a practice session at our club meeting. Both teams performed well, and feedback from our judges will be sent to the team leaders, to help them improve further for the area finals.
Youth Speaks 22nd November 2010
On a chilly winter’s night the assembled Rotarians and guests were fascinated by the presentations from Belmont Academy and Kyle Academy.
Kyle, entering in the intermediate age group, were a young side whose inexperience was evident. However, what they lacked in this area, they more than made up for with their enthusiasm. Their topic for the address ‘Youth Crime, is enough being done to combat it?’ was delivered with drive and passion by the main speaker, the supporting members of the team contributing both humour and enthusiasm. The team, hopefully, enjoyed the experience, and learnt more of the skills required for public speaking. We look forward to their return next year.
Belmont Academy, entering in the senior age group, provided a delivery that demonstrated a very high level of debate, accomplished speakers and a presentation that combined wit, humour, confidence and passion in every part. Their subject title, ‘ The decline of Scot’s dialect and language’, offered the opportunity for some active delivery in Scots dialect and educational English. The judges admired the poise and authority of the speakers and considered their performance to be very naturally delivered in a most accomplished fashion.
Both teams are nominated to go forward to the District Finals early in 2011. Ayr Rotary wish them well.
