Rotary Club of Ayr

2011 was a very special year for The Rotary Club of Ayr as we celebrated 80 years since the award of our Charter.  Today, we have over 50 members and are active in our local, national and international communities.  We meet every Tuesday, alternating between lunchtime and evening meetings, at the Savoy Park Hotel, Ayr.  We believe this is a unique arrangement in Rotary, to accommodate working members with a choice of meeting times.  We acknowledge and appreciate the modern day pressures on family and working lives and our Club has changed to meet the demands and needs of newer members.

Please take a few moments to visit our website, to see the service work we do in our communities.  We are a very active Rotary Club, in service and in fellowship.  And from fellowship, friendships grow.  If you would like to know more about Rotary and in particular, The Rotary Club of Ayr, please give me a call (01292 265516) or email me at rotaryclubofayr@gmail.com.

Alex Thomson

President

A new President takes over the reins at the Rotary Club of Ayr. 4 July 2011

President Alex Thomson has been inaugurated as the new Rotary Club President of Ayr.  Alex has many years experience of Rotary and we are looking forward to an exciting year under his guidance.  A past President of the Rotary Club of Loudoun, Alex came to Ayr only after his retirement from his banking career in Kilmarnock, but is well known to the Ayr Rotarians, mainly through his curling prowess.  Alex was a member of the Loudoun curling rink that dominated the Ayrshire Rotary curling league during the 1990’s and went on to win the Rotary World Curling championship in 2000 in Niagara falls, Canada.  He continued to curl for the Ayr club and was a non-playing member of the Ayr team that won the Rotary World Curling Friendship trophy at Perth in 2010.  Alex’s theme for 2011 will be “be active and aim high”

Rotary International

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.

But most importantly, we have fun doing all that! And develop friendships that last a lifetime.
