Golf
We have many keen golfers in the club and participate in several events throughout the year.
The Ayrshire Rotary League used to be a thriving competition, with several matches played at different courses during the year. Sadly this has fallen from popularity amongst many of the other clubs, and was not played for in 2010. Kilwinning were the winners of the 2009 league, beating Ayr in the final, held at Prestwick Golf Club and they are therfore the organisers for the 2011 league.
We play an annual event for club members, contesting the Kümmel Cup, under stableford rules. For many years this was the Cosh Cup competition. The Cup was presented to the Club by Mr Cosh, for Annual Golf competition. It was first played for in 1962, with the final year being 2005. John Laughland won it many times, and decided he would like to donate a new trophy after his triumph in 2005. as the Cosh Cup was small and there was little space left to add further winner’s names. John’s new trophy is called the Kümmel Cup and has been played for each year since 2006. Charlie Steele is the current holder.
There are a number of open Rotary competitions played throughout the year. We have entered two teams in the 2011 RIBI championship. This is a knockout competition at District level, with the winners going to Nottingham to play in the national finals.
Latest report
The 2011 District golf tournament information, for the Willie Stott and Coronation Trophies, was circulated to members, but there was no interest this year.
